But why is this day celebrated? 60 years ago, on November 20, 1947, the Ministry of Education of Colombia and the board of directors of the National University of Colombia, approved agreement 231, which gave way to the expansion of the Psychotechnics Section of the Physiology Laboratory of the institution.
This way, the Institute of Applied Psychology became autonomous and in 1949 opened its doors to educate and train the first psychology professionals to graduate in Colombia. It is important to mention that this decision was a pioneering initiative in Latin America. 40 years later, psychology was recognized and regulated as a profession by Law 58 and in 2006, in article 92, November 20 of each year was officially recognized as the official day of the psychologist in Colombia.
