All fans of Fibonacci tools surely know that the proportions of the “golden section” were used to calculate Fibonacci levels. But I decided to dig deeper and understand how these levels were calculated. As a result, the first thing that surprised me was the information, that in technical analysis rounded values of the “golden section” are used. In fact, the golden section is not the value 1.618, but 1.61803398874989, in addition, the figure has an inverse value, 0.618033988749895 (in Fibonacci tools, it is the level 0.618). It does not seem to be important, since the values are only rounded to ten thousandths. However, all other Fibonacci levels are calculated based on the direct and inverse golden section of values, and these derived values have much more significant deviations.

As with any other technical analysis tool, the relevance of signals is checked against the retrospective chart, i.e. against historical data. To do this, when building the arcs, the levels must be selected, which show the past changes with greater precision. Although this rule is not 100% accurate, like any other rule in technical analysis, in practice, that arc is the most important key point, which marked the strongest trend change in the past.
